Remy carried his duffle bag to his room, just as Hunter emerged from his bedroom seemingly surprised to find Remy home.

“You’re home? Is Sterling here?” He looked guilty of something, but perhaps it was just his disappointment at knowing he would no longer be able to claim the title of ‘Alpha’ in Sterling’s absence.

“Yeah, that’s right. The Alpha is back to rule the pack. What’s been going since I’ve been gone? Sterling will want to know.” Remy strengthened his stance against the Beta. He straightened his back and hardened his jaw, being sure not to show weakness.

It wasn’t as though Hunter ever ‘conquered’ Remy to claim the title of Beta; Remy never challenged him. When your baby brother is the Alpha, you already have more Beta authority than the Beta does. Recently though, Hunter was becoming too aggressive and Remy realized he would need to knock him down soon.

“I don’t care what your brother wants. If he’s got an issue with how I ran my pack, he can come to me himself.” Hunter sneered.

“I’m sure he will. Where is Katia?”

“Why do you care, Remy? It’s not like the little bitch is going to put out; it’s pretty clear she’s not interested in being properly ridden.”

It was obvious from his tone that he tried to ‘ride’ Katia and she wasn’t having it, which bruised his ego. Remy had no intention of being so vulgar with her.

“My business with her isn’t your concern. I only need you to tell me where she is.”

Hunter shrugged. Even if he knew where she was, he wasn’t in the mood to play nice and tell Remy. He started to walk away, but turned back to Remy and stepped up to him, trying his best to be imposing. Remy wasn’t intimidated.

“Tell your half-brother, that I’m not interested in waiting around for his fuck-boy to find his way home. I want the pack to move on. We’ve gone too long without a proper Alpha and I don’t feel like wasting any more time while he nurses his broken heart.”

“Well, he’s back now, so you don’t have to worry about us having a proper Alpha, he’s here. You also don’t need me to relay messages for you, if you want to talk to him, you can approach him yourself.” Remy got into Hunter’s face as he coolly reminded Hunter of his status.

After dinner that night, Sterling left his bedroom and headed down to the house’s main patio that extended over the lake. As he walked downstairs he heard the familiar sound of music and howling outside. The boys were having a party. It was a common thing to step out onto the patio at night to find ten to twenty locals in the Jacuzzi or jumping naked off the lake’s private dock. He finally felt like he was home.

When he got to the bottom floor, he stumbled upon Mazio in the living room. Immediately, Mazio jumped up to greet Sterling, excited to see him. He wore only loose fitting nylon swim shorts.
